For those times in life when we've made a mistake, Southern Mass Credit Union offers several options to help cover those "oops" moments.
When life happens, avoid the cost and embarrassment of bounced checks by applying for an overdraft line of credit to connect to your personal checking account. A line of credit is available to approved checking members to cover certain overdraft checks and debits. An Overdraft Line of Credit does require the member to complete an application; approval and overdraft line of credit limit is based on creditworthiness. Overdraft Line of Credit rates are available.
Please call or visit one of our branch locations for details or visit our Consumer Loan page for more information.
With Overdraft Transfers, SMCU can transfer funds from a SMCU savings account to a SMCU checking account to cover an overdraft. You can link any savings account to any checking account as long as the accounts have the same ownership titles. An Overdraft Transfer Fee of $10 will be charged for each transfer.
To set-up Overdraft Transfers please call (508) 994-9971 or visit one of our branch locations.
The Overdraft Privilege Program is a discretionary service offered by Southern Mass Credit Union to help cover occasional mistakes that could lead to insufficient funds. Should a transaction occur that overdraws a member's share draft (checking) account, the Credit Union may elect to pay the overdrawn amount and charge the normal overdraft fee. This service avoids having an item returned unpaid, assessing an NSF fee, and avoid the merchant's returned check fee.
The Overdraft Privilege Program is available on all eligible checking accounts. You do not have to apply for or sign any additional documents for this service for checks, ACH or recurring debit transactions. It is already a part of your Checking Account Agreement with us. If you want us to consider paying ATM and one-time debit card transactions that would overdraw your account, we need your affirmative consent to do so.
If you want us to authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM and everyday debit card transactions, call (508) 994-9971, visit one of our local offices, or use this link to opt-in online.
If you do not use Overdraft Privilege it costs you nothing. “Use” means you initiate insufficient funds transactions.
